AntzDoodles For Pyjama People #14: What a difference a day can make

‘What a difference a day makes…
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain…’

Now when I think of this song from my formative years, I truly understand what it means. Living with RA, each day brings with it new surprises and, trust me, they are not happy ones. Pain is a part of my everyday; my constant. I deal with it, sure, but it’s not easy.

Then just like that, some days I wake up and it’s gone. Like not a trace of it anywhere. It almost takes an hour on such mornings for it to sink in: I’m not in pain. But as soon as it does, I can’t suppress the grin on my face. I become sunshine. There is a giggle in my voice, a skip in my step, and even the mundane becomes exciting.

When such a state is achieved without a pain killer, I feel like I can conquer the world. I savour every minute of such days and never want them to end. The next day could be a bad again, but that doesn’t spoil my good one.

I really don’t like you, RA. Yet, you have taught me some important life lessons. The most important being that living in the moment is indeed fun. Thank you for that.
