Rosie Assoulin‘s already been christened the new Queen of Evening Wear. But, I think everyone should wear all Rosie all day long. Seriously, I’ve been Insta-stalking her since… 2014, which is light-years in fashion time.
Here’s a brief primer on the one-woman show who started out on her grandmom’s sewing machine, and even assisted the legendary Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. Nominated last year for Forbes 40 under 40, and the nominee for the pretigious Woolmark Prize 2014/2015, this designer is now all the rage. Not a cool girl in sight who isn’t strutting down the red carpet in a Roise!
- Comic genius Kirsten Wiig in the Disco dress
- Sonam looking fiery in her red Rosie
Two years since she debuted her eponymous line, her Fall 2016 collection is an excellent example of what magic happens when confident women design to make other women feel amazing.
- :Mixing evening and day in a way that feels fresh and authentic, making a situation where the clothes are working with you and not against you”
- “I don’t buy into this whole frivolous fashion thing. I don’t think it’s wasteful or indulgent. It’s nice to get dressed up and celebrate sometimes. Those are important, meaningful moments, especially in hard times.”
- “I feel like I’m in Gulliver’s Travels.”
- “We have everything from very voluminous, generous, cozy clothes to cutout pieces that are more revealing. I feel like I’m a version of all those women at any different time.
- “I really think about comfort.”
- “A woman has to be the perfect mother, the perfect sister, the perfect friend, the perfect worker, and have the perfect hair and the perfect dress.’ That’s an internal dialogue for a lot of women. But at the same time, we just get it done.”
And then there’s her Resort 2017 collection that’s all Greta Garbo style glamour.
- “I like to think of things expanding instead of contracting an identity”
- “I found that if you can bring yourself to just focus on the next 24 hours then you can make yourself make those scary decisions.
I, of course, have my own personal favourites from her last collection. And because her clothes never seem to go out of style, it’s always a good time to get Rosie!
- Love this back detail!
- Column Dress
- Solange in the Green Rosie
Rosie Assoulin’s clothes can be shopped at Net-a-porter and Moda Operandi.
