Happy Teachers’ Day, RA

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

The 5th of September was Teachers’ Day in India. This is considered Teachers’ Week. Typically, when I would think of instructors, I would only think of school. And this I think is the case with most people. Even the Google homepage doodle this year was books and pencils. This time though, my thoughts were a bit different. Instead of my first teachers, my thoughts were on my …

AntzDoodles #17: Drawing Hope

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

Ever so often, I get asked if my doodles are a way of expressing my anger towards RA. The answer is NO. I have a disease of the joints: read swollen fingers, locked wrists, and aching elbows. If anger was driving me, I would just rant to my friends. Instead, I chose to do  something that causes me more discomfort. The motivation to pick up …

AntzDoodles For Pyjama People #14: What a difference a day can make

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

‘What a difference a day makes… Twenty-four little hours Brought the sun and the flowers Where there used to be rain…’ Now when I think of this song from my formative years, I truly understand what it means. Living with RA, each day brings with it new surprises and, trust me, they are not happy ones. Pain is a part of my everyday; my constant. I deal with …

Antzdoodles for Pyjama People #13: Therapy of a different kind

Venice_Zoom_PP-2

Therapy of a different kind Everyone needs a break from work, and I am no different. Except, my break was from all the different therapies I’d tried for my RA. A summer in Europe was all I was dreaming of- visiting friends at different places, seeing art, and just walking around. London, Venice, Berlin- all in my itinerary. It was a great plan, except for …

AntzDoodlesForPyjamaPeople: #12, Flight Delay – Never a problem!

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

Airports are emotional places. Long awaited reunions, sentimental goodbyes, excess baggage drama, flying anxieties. Throw in a few delayed flights and you have yourself a curse dictionary. I was at Bangalore airport last year during the Christmas season. All the flights were delayed because of the holiday rush. I found myself surrounded by a crowd of super anxious and agitated travellers. To add to that, the entire …

AntzDoodlesForPyjamaPeople: #11, A perfect present

RA 12_PP.JPG

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of life” – Eckhart Tolle. Great spiritual teachers always speak about living in the moment and its importance for the human soul. Most of us know this, to a large extent. We understand it makes sense to live in the now, but it is a particularly hard exercise. Who wouldn’t …

AntzDoodlesForPyjamaPeople: #10, A rant

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

Hi, I’m Antima. And I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Yes, I am way too young to have it. And I know that your mother in law/grandmom/uncle/neighbour’s cat has it. It does not help me feel any younger or healthier hearing that. And thank you for your concern. I appreciate it, truly. But trust me I have tried all the treatments you can think of, and a …

#AntzDoodlesForPyjamaPeople #9: Thailand

RA 17_PP.JPG.sb-477ec52b-R4SES9

Thailand, part 2 By Antima Nahar   So, after the planning hullabaloo, here I was – in a beautiful Thai resort surrounded by friends, all of whom were in a frenzy about the nonwedding. It was a perfect set up with all the ingredients for a three-day non-stop party – just not so great for me. I can’t drink, remember? And that was just the …
