Film producer Ryan Stephen passed away on Saturday due to Covid-19 related complications in Goa. Ryan had previously produced Kiara Advani’s Indoo Ki Jawani and Kajol’s short film Devi.
Indoo Ki Jawani director Abir Sengupta confirmed the news of Ryan’s death to indianexpress.com. Calling his death “heartbreaking”, he said, “Ryan passed away this morning. He was fighting Covid-19. He was in Goa, his friends and family are arranging his funeral.” After contracting the virus, Ryan was admitted to a hospital in Goa where he was treated for over two weeks.
Ryan was also associated with filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in the past. He lived in Goa with his mother. Shortly after his passing, Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their grief over the passing of the late producer.

A heartbroken Kiara Advani took to her Instagram and shared Ryan’s photo, writing, “Gone too soon”. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt also paid tribute on Instagram.
Filmmaker and writer Suparn Varma took to Twitter, writing: “Life is cruel! But you were kind! @ryanmstephen for your compassion in an unforgiving world. I’m glad we took a journey on a few stories, the joy of sharing them writing was thanks to you. You leave so many people who loved you. Cook a storm my friend.”

Manoj Bajpayee offered his condolences, writing: “It is so shocking for all of us who knew this gentle soul. It really can’t be true!! I will miss you my friend RYAN”. Dia Mirza and Farhan Akhtar also tweeted to remember the late filmmaker.

Pooja Bhatt wrote a long, heartfelt letter when she said goodbye to Ryan. She wrote: “A dawn that I will never forget. A candle that I will burn forever, both inside and outside myself. As a friend, in the wee hours of the morning, decided to call it a night. I can can’t bring myself to say adieu. I can’t bring myself to say goodbye. He’s only changed rooms, cities, worlds. For which I will eventually lay aside my earthly preoccupations, spread my wings and travel there so that we can have our great reunion in the air.”
She added: “I refuse to let the detail of death overshadow his life. Because live he did.. And lived WE did.. and loved, laughed, fought and cried.”
