Millarworld has officially started publishing on Netflix Jupiter’s legacy And while there is much to be expected from the Millarworld universe in the future, will we return in Season 2 with Utopian and the Gang? The answer to that question looks like no, as Netflix isn’t making headway with Season 2 but doesn’t rule out a return to the franchise.
Early reviews suggest the show has gotten off to a relatively mixed start, which shouldn’t be too surprising as it has been negatively impacted by the pandemic. A showrunner change and some new additions that happened earlier this year made for a pretty chaotic and inconsistent first season.
With that said, the 8-episode superhero series is out now and when you’re all done let’s dive into Season 2.
Has Netflix renewed Jupiter’s legacy for season 2?
Official renewal status: Not forward (Last updated: 02/06/2021)
The week before the Jupiter’s legacy Season 1 we released a report that said the show was renewed based on comments made by Mark Millar to Scottish publication Herald Scotland.
Commenting on the future of Millarworld on Netflix, Millar said, “Next year it will be there Jupiter Season two. There will be The magical order, a horror show and a large espionage project “,
That told us that Season 2 was scheduled for next year (whether that should be released or just in production is unclear), but that’s not the case. Since we were corrected shortly after this post was published, it is simply the current intent for the show, provided that it is extended, but that the schedule with the series is no longer effectively canceled.
Millar was hopeful in interviews in the days leading up to the release, saying:
“Season 2 is up to the audience. We don’t want to be too cocky. All I see is that we are entering this incredibly bullish period. We feel great about it. I’ve watched, even about Covid, I’ve sat in slices pretty much every day and never get tired. So keep your fingers crossed, people love it as much as we do. “
Although it does reasonably well on Netflix’s top 10 lists (although it dropped out of the global top 50 on May 29), on May 2 we did.
In a carefully worded exclusive to Deadline, Nellie Andreeva says: “Jupiter’s legacy will not be continued as an ongoing series “adding that” the streamer has chosen to leave [go] the top-class cast ”. This means that the cast is free to effectively pursue other projects with the show on hold or cancel them for the foreseeable future. With a large cast like this, it seems unlikely that they’ll be looking to return in the future.
Millar followed with a statement, “We are confident we will come back to this later,” which can be found on Twitter. While there is a lot of crossover potential for all of Millarworld’s properties in the future, it means that Jupiter’s legacy as a standalone project is over, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see the characters return.

This cancellation probably came as no surprise, but it was a disappointing start for Millarworld on Netflix nonetheless.
What we expected from Jupiter’s Legacy Season 2
Warning: spoilers for the end of season 1 of Jupiter’s Legacy below.
While the series roughly follows the comics, it isn’t particularly useful to use as an accurate guide, as the show deviates greatly in many of the modern storylines.
Brandon, for example, leads a similar life to Chloe in the comics (i.e., celebrity endorsements and live the high life) but not on the series. The comics also alternate between 2013 and 2020, while the show only sticks to two timelines.
So while we could speculate about some of the beats that might slip from the comics into the show, it would be much better to speculate where the show is headed next based on the events of the last episode.
In this case, we’ve just learned that Brainwave is behind many of the modern day problems the heroes face when trying to take over The Union, and that she is behind the cloning of Blackstar. He clearly has big ambitions as he eventually kills his own daughter to advance his agenda.
Season 1 didn’t do enough, anyway, in our opinion, to really tell us what happened to Blue Bolt and Skyfox. Hopefully her split from The Union will get a little more concrete in Season 2.
With much of the first season focused on the origins of the original founding members of The Union and with the children mostly taking a back seat, we expect the focus to shift to the children in Season 2. Hutch and Chloe are on a mission to find Hutch’s father, Bluefox. Brandon (Paragon) apparently patched his relationship with his father after struggling with the code, but clearly has a strong relationship with Brainwave.
Where each of the three children will ultimately fall (good or bad) is still up in the air and the comics tell us that on this front, we should expect the unexpected.
What’s next from Millarworld on Netflix?
The next big project is the anime series Super cheaters which is expected to appear on Netflix in 2021.
Elsewhere, Mark Millar also revealed:
- The next few years for Millarworld on Netflix are already planned, with Millar saying, “We have planned the next three out of four years. And that’s just the TV side “
- Millar compares his role to that of Kevin Feige
- Millar is obliged to work on projects for “good years” and plans to set up “20 franchises”
- In the aforementioned deadline article, a live-action spin-off for off was announced Super cheaters which will get an anime series later in 2021.
In the meantime, we recommend that you keep copies of Jupiter’s legacy and spin-off Jupiter’s circle as they are excellent source material and it is interesting to compare and contrast the story of the show with the original.
