Malaika Arora talks candidly about post-Covid struggle: ‘The four letter word that pushed me through was hope’

Actor Malaika Arora is candid about all the difficulties she faced after recovering from Covid-19 last September.

Along with a photo collage, Malaika Arora wrote: “What defines strength? ‘You are so lucky’, ‘It must have been so easy’, I hear regularly. Well, I am grateful for many things in my life. But luck played into that. a very small roll. And easy!? Boy! It wasn’t. I tested positive on September 5 and it was really bad. Anyone who calls a COVID recovery easy is blessed with great immunity or is not aware of the battle of COVID. Now that I’ve experienced it myself, “easy” isn’t the word I would choose. It broke me physically. Walking 2 steps felt like a mammoth task. Sitting up, just getting out of bed, wanting to stand in front of my window , was a journey in itself. I gained weight, I felt weak, lost my stamina, I was away from my family and more. I finally tested negative on September 26 and I was so grateful that I did. But the weakness remained I felt disappointed that my body was not under supported how my mind was feeling. I was afraid I would never regain my strength. I wondered if I could even complete one activity in 24 hours.”

Malaika went on to share: “My first workout was brutal. I couldn’t do anything right. I felt broken. But on day 2, I got up again and said to myself, ‘I’m my own maker.’ And then days 3 and 4 and 5 and so on It’s been about 32 weeks since I tested negative and I finally feel like myself again I can train like I used to before I tested positive I can breathe better and feel both physically and mentally strong.”

The actor concluded: “The four-letter word that pushed me through was HOPE. The hope that it will all work out, even if it feels like it’s not right. Thank you to everyone who sent me messages, DMs and inspirational things that have given me a good But I also pray that the world will also recover and that we will all come out of this together I am coming out of this phase with 2 words GRIT & GRATITUDE Thank you my dearest brother & partner @sarvesh_shashi Next phase of 30 weeks starts in June !”

Malaika Arora’s message received reactions from colleagues and friends. Sister Amrita Arora wrote in the comment section of the post, “Can you send me that ab platter to put some cheese on it?”

Twinkle Khanna, Dia Mirza, Bipasha Basu, Huma Qureshi, Sophie Choudry and Maheep Kapoor, among others, have also responded to Malaika Arora’s post.
