Netflix’s extensive comedy library is set to add another soon as Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy move on God’s dearest idiot. Both are to produce the workplace comedy as lead and executive, while Falcone wrote the script for the series. Here’s everything we know so far God’s dearest idiot Season 1, which apparently has been shortened.

Falcone and McCarthy are a real couple and have worked together on numerous projects, such as Bridesmaids, Tammy, Super intelligence, and The boss. The couple also recently released their Netflix movie Thunder power who also plays McCarthy.

God’s dearest idiot Directed by Michael McDonald, who worked with McCarthy and Falcone on productions such as The Boss, Nobody, Spy, The Heat, and more. The series will come from Falcones and McCarthy’s production company On The Day who worked on projects like The boss, Tammy, and Super intelligence.

What is the plot of God’s dearest idiot?

Netflix God’s dearest idiot is described as a “workplace comedy” in which all performers are employees within a company. The series is believed to mix comedy, casual workplace humor, biblical imagery, and elements of fantasy. Unfortunately, apart from the official synopsis, no further details about the plot of the comedy series are known:

Middle tech support agent Clark Thompson (Falcone) finds love for colleague Amily Luck (McCarthy) at the same time he becomes God’s unwitting messenger. There’s also roller skating, a lake of fire, and an impending apocalypse.

Who is there? God’s dearest idiot?

McCarthy 2

As mentioned above, the two main derivatives for God’s dearest idiot are Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Falcone is said to play tech support agent Clark Thompson, who falls in love with McCarthy’s colleague Amily Luck. They are from Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), Usman ally (68 whiskey), Ana Scottney (pedagogues), Chris Sandiford (What we do in the shadows) and Steve Mallory (The boss). Everyone will play Amily and Clark’s colleagues.

Here are the supporting cast’s character descriptions via Deadline. Unfortunately, such descriptions are missing for the main duo.

Ana Scottney will play Wendy. In short, Wendy is a giver – of gifts, advice, and anything she thinks might help another person. And while their attempts to comfort others often fail, the group relies on Wendy’s empathy to guide them on the righteous path.

Chris Sandiford plays Tom. Tom is the insecure loudmouth from Arresta Tech. As loyal as he is irritating, Tom is exactly the brave and unwavering friend that every divine search requires.

Usman ally will be Mohsin Raza. Mohsin preferred a life of integrity to financial success or a leadership position. When Clark pulls his friends into a heavenly battle, Mohsin must reach his true potential to save not just his friends but the world.

Steve Mallory will represent Frisbee. Frisbee is a subordinate, middle manager. His utter lack of authority doesn’t dilute his devotion to the pecking order and platitudes of modern office life. For Frisbee, “work hard or hardly work” is a real consideration.

Meanwhile away from the office Yanic Truesdale plays Chamuel. Chamuel is the new guy in town. In fact, he’s the new lower echelon divine archangel in town, and if it weren’t for a devastating conflict tearing heaven and earth apart, he’d try the nachos at this mall kiosk.

How many episodes and seasons will be God’s dearest idiot to have?

Netflix has commissioned 16 episodes for God’s dearest idiot, but it was initially unclear how they were going to release them.

You could film and release all 16 episodes at once, but we bet the first 8 episodes would be Season 1 and the rest would be Season 2 of this series.

However, all of this is in the air. As we’ll cover in more detail in a second, The Guardian reports that the series only made the first eight episodes without saying whether they’ll be returning to shoot the remaining eight.

What is the production status of God’s dearest idiot?

The series is filmed in New South Wales, Australia, specifically in Byron Bay. Manufacturing has been forecast to employ 300 Australians and generate $ 74 million in the Australian economy.

In a statement to the NSW government, Falcone and McCarthy said:

“Having the opportunity to safely film our show in a beautiful country like Australia is a dream come true. We love this country and the talented people who live and work here. Special thanks to Chris, Luke and Liam Hemsworth for volunteering to carry us to and from work with their wonderful, powerful arms. “

Production of the show reportedly started in March 2021 and should be completed in November 2021.

DailyMail managed to cover some of the filming on April 20, 2021 and released some behind-the-scenes snapshots of McCarthy on the set.

However, it was in June 2021 when the Guardian article mentioned above reported that Netflix and the team had pulled out of the Netflix series, which reported that they had only gotten halfway through the shoot before filming is now complete.

The exact reasons why all of this happened are not yet known. The reasons why production stopped are likely high up, as Netflix would receive a sizeable grant to produce it.

It’s not the only production in Australia that is giving Netflix a headache as well. Protests have been ongoing since Netflix announced its new reality series Byron Baes. It is not known whether one of these protests in Byron-Bay (where God’s Favorite Idiot is filmed) had any influence on the production stop.

When will God’s dearest idiot be published on Netflix?

Given a likely production start in 2021, the new comedy series is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2022. But with what appears to be half the show, everything seems to be in the air.
