New actors announced for Netflix’s “The Sandman”

Filming has been going on since October 2020 for the first season of The Sandman, but cast details have been incredibly rare so far. With the latest announcement, we now have the seemingly complete cast list for The Sandman.

The cast of The Sandman is becoming one of the most exciting we’ve seen for an original series so far. Twelve new cast members have been confirmed for the first season of The Sandmanbringing the current total confirmed cast for the series to 23.

New cast members announced for Netflix's The Sandman Original Series

The most interesting cast choice among the actors mentioned above is the decision to cast Jenna Coleman in the role of Johanna Constantine. The character of Johanna Constantine is the ancestor of John Constantine, everyone’s favorite occult detective. It’s unclear if Coleman plays the role of John’s ancestor or if she plays a gender-swapped John Constantine. Since we’ve already seen the roles of Lucifer and Lucienne from actresses Gwendoline Christie and Vivienne Acheampong, it’s not difficult to take on the latter.

In full length the new cast of The Sandman are;

  • Kirby Howell-Baptiste as death
  • Mason Alexander Park as Desire
  • Donna Preston as Despair
  • Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall
  • Joely Richardson as Ethel Cripps
  • Niamh Walsh as the young Ethel Cripps
  • David Thewlis as John Dee
  • Kyo Ra as Rose Walker
  • Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven
  • Stephen Fry as Gilbert
  • Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine
  • Sandra James Young as Unity Kincaid

Interestingly, none of the actors in the audio book are from The Sandman resume their roles in the Netflix original series. Big names like Kat Dennings, James McAvoy, Taron Egerton and Joanna Lumley made their speaking talent available for the audio book.
