Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire co-star Lisa Jakub reveals how he helped her cope with depression as a teenager

Robin Williams has been gone for almost 7 years and yet his impact on the world can still be felt today, especially among those who knew him personally. As you may know, Mrs. Doubtfire’s cast met to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and actress Lisa Jakub, who played the movie’s eldest daughter, spoke openly about how Robin Williams helped her with her own fear- and battles with depression helped.

Jakub shared, “Robin was everything one would hope for and he has been really open and honest with me about his own issues with anxiety and depression. I was able to tell him that I was struggling with anxiety, and he talked to me about mental health in ways that 14-year-olds are usually not used to adults being so open about such personal experiences with them. ‘

After appearing in films like Independence Day, Jakub left Hollywood after realizing the tremendous toll it took on her mental health.

“He really insisted that I knew the substances wouldn’t help. That this was a path he’d gone with addiction and that it made things worse. And I think as a 14 year old child actor, hearing good news is a really good story because it’s a beaten path for a lot of child actors. ‘

Today Jakub pays for this by attending mental health workshops to help others deal with anxiety, depression, and other common mental health issues.
