Actor Samantha Akkineni took to Instagram Friday night to thank viewers for the positive response to her debut digital project The Family Man Season 2. Samantha also called her character “Raji’s story, though fictional, to me, is a tribute to those who died because of a unequal war’.
The actor shared a photo of himself and creators Raj & DK on Instagram, writing, “Reading all the reviews and comments fills my heart with such joy. RAJI will always be special.”
Samantha Akkineni went on to deal with the suffering of Eelam Tamils and the research it took to play Raji in Season 2 of The Family Man. She went on to write: “When @rajanddk approached me to do the character, I knew that portraying Raji’s character required sensitivity and balance. The creative team shared documentaries about the Tamil struggle with stories of women in the Eelam War. Then i saw those documentaries i was stunned and shocked by the trouble and unspeakable grief that the Tamils of Eelam went through over a long period of time it occurred to me that the aforementioned documentaries had only been watched a few thousand times and then it dawned on me to me how the world looked away for a moment as tens of thousands of people of Eelam lost their lives And lakhs more lost their livelihoods and their homes *Numerous many* continue to live in distant lands with the wounds of civil war still fresh in their hearts and minds. ”
Samantha concluded her post by saying that Raji’s story is “a grim, much-needed reminder for us, more than ever before, to come together as people to fight hate, oppression and greed.” The last part of her post read: “Raji’s story, although fictional, to me is a tribute to those who died in an unequal war, and to those who live on in the painful memory of the war. I thought it was special that Raji’s portrayal was balanced, nuanced and sensitive I want Raji’s story to be a stark, much-needed reminder for us, more than ever before, to come together as people to fight hate, oppression and greed. If we don’t, countless others are denied their identity, liberty and their right to self-determination.”
