Suicide Squad didn’t feel like the movie we were going to make: Joel Kinnaman

Actor Joel Kinnaman has admitted that the 2016 anti-hero ensemble film Suicide Squad fell short of his own expectations.

Directed by David Ayer, the DC movie, directed by Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto, was a major bust with critics and audiences alike seeking the story and performances.

During an interview with Variety, Kinnaman, who played Rick Flagg, said the film started well but lost the thread halfway through.

“I thought the first 40 minutes of the movie were great, and then there were conflicting views and it didn’t turn out what we all hoped it would be. It didn’t feel like the movie we were hoping to make,” he said.

The actor is now reprising his role in the upcoming installment of filmmaker James Gunn’s franchise, titled The Suicide Squad.

“This is something very different. … It’s just another universe. It’s a James Gunn universe. It’s a very hilarious and depraved place,’ Kinnaman teased.

The new film will also star Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Peter Capaldi.

Kinnaman said The Suicide Squad is one of the most entertaining movies he’s ever worked on.

“From A to Z, it’s so well paced, it has such drive and such comedic timing. It’s funny on the go, effortless all the time. But I think what really surprised me was that I noticed how well it flowed, but also how he (Gunn) was able to create these little bubbles, these little moments of emotional depth and visual and emotional poetry,” he said. .

The actor believes that the film “transcend the genre” and became something bigger.

“Then it’s also very stupid, and in many ways ridiculous and super violent. Just bloody almost every now and then. And it has shocking moments, but they are very comical,” he added.

The Suicide Squad will be released in the US in August this year.
