The classic drama limited series Stories of the city First released in 1993, Netflix will exit worldwide in June 2021.
The 6-episode miniseries first aired on Channel 4 in the UK was added to Netflix along with the release of the relaunched version that Netflix commissioned in June 2019. Apparently, the show was only rented to Netflix for two years, Why it is slated to leave Netflix in all regions on June 28, 2021.
The series is well worth a look as it was a groundbreaking show at the time of publication. Based on the novels by Armistead Maupin, the show followed several people in San Francisco in their daily lives.
We should make it clear early on that this removal from Netflix only applies to the classic series. The Netflix-commissioned reboot, which fell back in June 2019, is neither abandoned nor expected (though we can’t rule out it will ever happen). A second season of the restarted show is not expected.
Just Stories of the city was added to Netflix. The following two installments (More stories of the city and More city stories) did not land on Netflix and are not available anywhere outside of the United States.
The removal date applies to all regions.
These include the United States, Canada, and Australia. It also includes India, Latin America, and all of Europe. The UK never received the series and is therefore not leaving. You can see a full list of the countries that are currently streaming Stories of the city about Unogs.
Where the series ends is unclear. While Channel 4 aired the show (and PBS in the US much later) we’re not entirely sure if they are the distributor. Working Title Films, who worked on the show, is a subsidiary of NBC Universal, so it could end up on Peacock. The restarted show came from Universal, so it’s likely that rights will come back into their control. However, it is currently not listed as part of the Peacock lineup from June 2021.
Several other series will also be removed in June 2021, including Hannibal and some classic series will go a week later Stories of the city including Twin peaks and The twilight zone.
